The Time Is Now – Join and Support NDN

With the help of thousands across the country these last few years, NDN has emerged as one of the most innovative and influential think tanks on America's center-left -- not because of size, money or the embrace of a few powerful politicians, but because our ideas and analysis have been prescient, influential and most importantly, correct; exactly what one would hope for from an independent think tank. But now, it is time to do more than talk, than to write, than to analyze - it is time to lead. So, please join us and contribute to NDN at this extraordinary moment. Read more...

On Obama, Race and the End of the Southern Strategy

Last January, on the morning after the Iowa caucuses, NDN President Simon Rosenberg authored an essay called “On Obama, Race and the End of the Southern Strategy.” Moved by Senator Obama's incredible speech the night of the caucuses, Simon wrote about what Obama’s rise meant for our politics and our nation, and came away believing that the powerful voice that emerged that night had the potential to have a profound impact on America.

Election and Political Analysis from NDN

To help put this historic election in context, we have assembled the best of our political analysis from the past several years. These pieces cover the main arguments coming from NDN: The end of the conservative ascendancy and the dawn of a "new politics," the emergence of new voting groups like the Millennials and Hispanics, the power that a whole array of new media and technology tools are unleashing into our democracy, and old-fashioned number crunching and analysis on everything from the role of independents, the economy and video in the elections.

A Stimulus for the Long Run

Post-election, Congress will head back to Washington to consider another stimulus package. NDN has been weighing in on the need to create a package that jumpstarts the economy by creating a low-carbon economy. In a recent essay, NDN Globalization Initiative Chair Dr. Robert Shapiro argues for a “Stimulus for the Long Run” that invests in clean infrastructure, worker training, and technology. Green Project Director Michael Moynihan makes the case for "Accelerating the Development of a 21st Century Economy" by investing in clean infrastructure.

Millennial Makeover and Hispanics Rising

NDN is excited to announce that Michael Hais and Morley Winograd, authors of the best-selling book "Millennial Makeover," have joined NDN as Fellows. NDN has long argued that Millennials, along with Hispanics, are becoming core elements of a new, sustainable 21st century progressive coalition. To learn more about how these demographics are changing the face of American politics, read our reports, "Hispanics Rising II" and "The Progressive Politics of the Millennial Generation."

Keeping the Focus on the Struggle of Everyday People

Most Americans have not shared in the benefits of the last eight years of growth economy, as job creation stagnated and real wages fell. Now, with our economy in a full-blown recession and the housing and financial sectors melting down, everyday Americans are hurting more than ever, and many homeowners are underwater. NDN has long argued that we must keep the focus on everyday people. As part of this effort, policy makers should embrace the growing momentum behind NDN’s proposal to keep people in their homes.
